A SET OF 3 PORTFOLIOS 1 NEW 2 LIKE NEW (See Below). Over the years, there have been many an art "collection" of Tolkien's works offered and for years, many of these have been out of print. With the renewed interest in "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" movies, these are now getting even harder to find. These artists in particular have had the most influence on what we think of when we "see" Tolkien's images reimagined, and all collaborated on the movies which is obvious if you have seen their artwork over the years.
Starting with The Hobbit Poster Collection (shown left), Alan Lee gave us the first real images outside our own imaginings in a format that could be memorialized, idealized and framed. Not to be outdone, John Howe, created what are now the hardest to find and most imaginative of collections in Images of Middle Earth (shown right). This Poster Collection has been out of print for more than a decade or two and is by far the most coveted of all of the poster collections created based on Tolkien's work.Much of these magnificent artists' works were used in various Tolkien calendars over the years, and some images have been used in the assorted versions of Tolkiens' books illustrated by these artists. Possibly the rarest of all the poster collections, the Centenary Collection (shown left, below) was produced for the Tolkien Centennial in 1992 and is comprised of 6 images, also by Alan Lee. While it is the rarest due to the amount published, it is only surpassed in scarcity to the Images of Middle Earth due to hoarding. This listing is for all three. The Hobbit - Alan Lee. The Centenary Poster Collection of The Lord Of The Rings - Alan Lee. Images Of Middle Earth - John Howe. The three art portfolios include 18 posters in total, each one roughly 17x11 in sized, all loose paged, each one suitable for framing if desired. While some may be shocked at the sticker price of this listing, short of the Hobbit, I challenge you to find another of the other two in any condition.
